The LAPP celebrates the 50th anniversary of IN2P3

On Tuesday 15 June 2021, the LAPP organized a celebration for the 50th anniversary of the National Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics (IN2P3). An opportunity to look back on 45 years of common history!

Relive the 15 June event

In 1971, the French National Institute for Nuclear and Particle Physics (IN2P3) was created to perpetuate French excellence in these disciplines and to have a say in major international research projects. This year, IN2P3 celebrates its 50th anniversary. The program of the national festivities is available on the dedicated website: https://50ans.in2p3.fr/

The Annecy Laboratory of Particle Physics (LAPP) participated in the Institute’s anniversary by organizing a very special day of celebration in the laboratory. The program of the morning of Tuesday June 15 is available here (French only): https://indico.in2p3.fr/event/23871/

Reynald Pain, the director of IN2P3, introduced the morning of celebration to present the Institute, its history, and its strengths. Then, Giovanni Lamanna, director of the LAPP, recalled the 45 years of involvement of the Annecy Laboratory of Particle Physics in major international projects. These two speeches remind us of the French excellence in the scientific world, and open up new perspectives, notably with the FCC project. You can find the video of the speeches on the LAPP’s Youtube channel.

The LAPP, a laboratory opened to society and involved in local life

The Annecy Laboratory of Particle Physics (LAPP) is a worthy representative of the IN2P3 in the local life, in Haute-Savoie and in the Alpine region. Mrs. Frédérique Lardet, Member of Parliament and President of the Grand Annecy region, and Mrs. Véronique Riotton, Member of Parliament, reminded us of the importance of scientific research in the service of our territories.

Indeed, the LAPP leads projects in the service of its territories, with EUTOPIA to open science to the general public and school audiences (https://eutopia-annecy.in2p3.fr/) and IDEFICS in the service of companies in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region (https://idefics.fr/).

Many surprises for a convivial moment

The event of the 50th anniversary of the IN2P3 at the LAPP was the occasion to show the importance of the collaboration between the laboratories of the alpine territory. During the ceremony, the new humoristic video presenting the Labex Enigmass was presented to the guests.

The morning ended with a quiz for the laboratory agents and a convivial moment on site, made possible by the easing of sanitary conditions.

Finally, during the afternoon of this special day, students from the Université Savoie Mont Blanc were invited to the laboratory. They were able to discover the exhibition dedicated to the 50th anniversary of IN2P3 and to visit the LAPP and its Discovery Space EUTOPIA, accompanied by the researchers who work on these great research projects.
