Coronavirus: nearly 3,000 masks at the Haute Savoie Departmental Council of the Order of Physicians
On 24 March, the LAPP donated its entire stock of nearly 3,000 surgical masks, gloves, charlottes, overboots and protective suits to the Haute Savoie Departmental Council of the Order of Physicians.
“We contacted various contacts in the hospital sector, the Social Action services of the Greater Annecy area and doctors working for the SAMU. They told us of an immediate need for masks”, says Giovanni Lamanna, director of the LAPP, “we decided to give our stock to the doctors who will be able to manage it according to the needs of the nursing staff in our area. We quickly got in touch with Dr René-Pierre Labarrière, President of the Haute Savoie Departmental Council of the Order of Physicians to whom we delivered our stock”.
This equipment is usually used by LAPP researchers in a clean room (or more precisely, a clean room), a room where the concentration of dust must be minimized. Parameters such as temperature, humidity and relative pressure are also maintained at a level for the good of the research. We use masks and other equipment when assembling highly sensitive solid-state and optical sensing devices,” says Lamanna. These include devices that incorporate the French-Italian Virgo interferometer for the detection of gravitational waves, in which LAPP has had a leading role for 27 years, as well as detectors from CERN experiments, including ATLAS.
