Celebrating women and girls in science!

11 February is the international day for young girls who decide to study science, and for the women in science who have gone before them on this path. From 30 January to 3 February, female engineers and researchers from the LAPP visited primary, secondary and high school classes to talk, explain, listen and answer questions.

The “Women and Girls in Science and Technology” programme, initiated by CERN in 2017, now brings together four laboratories and universities. Thanks to the growing number of teachers involved, 200 classes and more than 5,000 students from the Genevois, Pays de Gex and Haute Savoie regions were able to receive and meet one of our colleagues this year.

“There is no such thing as a girl’s job or a boy’s job, there are jobs.”

The volunteers, ambassadors for a day, came back delighted with these exchanges and will start again at the same time next year.

A few pictures of the presentations by women from LAPP:

Children are always welcome at the laboratory’s open days.

But at the beginning of February, it is the women of science who go to meet them: here a primary school class.

Here a secondary school.

Here a high school.
