Fast Identification of continuous gravitational-wave signals

The new generation of gravitational-wave(GW) detectors Advanced LIGO/ Virgo has a real chance of observing the continuous waves (CW) from triaxial rotating neutron stars in the coming years. The search for this kind of emission is challenging due to the expected weakness of the signal, and the size of the parameter space. It is necessary to integrate for a long period of time (months to years) and it can become very computationally expensive when the source parameters are not known or constrained. The goal of this PhD is to set up a structure for an efficient joint analysis that will use the fast cross correlation algorithm developed for the detection of the stochastic GW background (SGWB) to quickly identify CW signals, which will be then properly followed up with ad hoc CW pipelines.
