LAPP takes part in a project selected by the European Commission

The XDC project (eXtreme DataCloud), led by CNRS through IN2P3 has been selected by the European Commission (Horizon H2020) in July 2017.

XDC establishes a collaboration between eight European institutes (AGH-UST, CERN, CNRS-IN2P3, DESY, ECRIN, EGI, INFN, Cantabria university), among which, for the IN2P3, the Computing Centre in Lyon and the LAPP in Annecy. At LAPP the project is led by Vincent Poireau, accompanied by Nadine Neyroud and Giovanni Lamanna. It will strengthen the competences of the LAPP’s scientific computing platform. The objectives of the XDC project is to develop technologies for federating storage resources and for managing data in highly distributed computing environments. The aim is to meet the needs of experiments dealing with very large data samples. At IN2P3 the concerned projects are LSST, CTA and HL-LHC.

The XDC project will start at the end of 2017 for a duration of 27 months with a budget of three millions euros.
